Uncle Darin bought Carmen a gingerbread house kit. We all helped build and decorate the house.

Auntie Kelly took charge of frosting the house while Carmen took charge of sorting the candy, and sneaking a few.

Carmen had a great time building her very first gingerbread house...although she did more eating than building :)

Grandma, Grandpa, and Auntie Kelly took Carmen to Wilderness Park for a picnic and some hiking. The weather was perfect for spending time outdoors.

We even visited the wildlife museum and learned all about the animals found in the park.

The weather was awesome and made everyone anxious for summer to arrive.

Grandma enrolled Carmen in a dance class and she loved it! Putting on her tutu for the first time was exhilarating and she even whispered to Grandma, "Grandma, I feel pretty." As you can see in the pictures below, Carmen had a blast and cannot wait to go back next week.

Carmen got a hair cut today at a place called The Yellow Balloon. It was the perfect place for her because along with her hair cut, she got a balloon and some cookies. Who knew hair cuts could be so much fun.

Carmen, Mommy, and Auntie Kelly spent an evening baking Valentine's Cookies for GrandMa and GrandPa. Carmen loves baking (and putting her fingers in everything) so it was definitely a blast.

At every opportunity she got, Carmen stole a lick of the frosting.

Xmas Crafts With Auntie Kelly

Auntie Kelly's friends, The Shafers, made Christmas related arts and crafts for Carmen as a Christmas gift. What an awesome gift! Carmen was so excited to sit and string beads onto a snowflake. When she was done, we put it on the Christmas tree.

Carmen is carefully placing marbles onto a starfish here. She loved it. Afterwards, she counted all of the marbles for me.

Lastly, Carmen decorated a snowflake with butterflies. I think this one was her favorite, although she still has a Christmas tree to make out of candy. We're saving that one for a special treat. Thank you Maddie, Jill, and Mike for such a fun gift!!

Carmen had just woken up from a nap when people started to arrive for our celebration. She is still waking up here.

Carmen's grandparents hosted Thanksgiving and invited their neighbor Nan. Nan is practically one of the family and we were all happy she could join us!

Carmen actually tried everything on her plate. Although she definitely saved room for a ton of pumpkin pie and ice cream.

Beach Day!

Summer is coming to an end (at least for Auntie Kelly who is going back to work next week) so Grandma & Grandpa wanted to bring Carmen down to the beach for one last time. It was a bit too windy for our umbrella but overall, we had a blast soaking up the sun and splashing in the waves. Carmen even fed the birds. :)

Carmen had a great time at the beach. She loved playing with the sand, especially burying her legs in it.

After spending a ton of time with our feet in the water, we wanted to take a quick break for a snack and juice.

When the waves would come up to our feet, Carmen would jump into the water. She loved it...and it was super cold.

Carmen also liked digging up shells and getting big handfuls of sand. :) She can't wait to go back.

Uncle Kevin just bought a new camera and took some amazing pictures of Carmen at her 2nd birthday party! Here's one of the family!

Everyday leading up to her birthday, when asked, "What do you want for your birthday?" Carmen would respond, "CAKE!" So we did not disappoint her.

She took the biggest bites and said, "Mmmm" when chewing. So funny.

Carmen had practiced over and over again how to hold two fingers up when saying that she is two, but needless to say, she isn't that coordinated yet and can't get that last finger to stay down. :)

Carmen got a lot of great toys and cute cards. Thanks again Uncle Kevin for taking such awesome pictures!

Summer Vacation Part II

I couldn't resist adding this picture. We had just finished a spaghetti dinner and Carmen's face was classic.

We stopped at Sugar Pine Railroad where Carmen saw a "too too train" and she loved it! She doesn't stop talking about it.

We spent a day at Bass Lake where we picnicked near the water. We saw ducks and a ton of boats. Carmen wanted to "swim swim" very badly.

Vacation to Yosemite National Park

Carmen is ready to hike with her backpack and leash. Ha.

The family rode bikes around Yosemite Valley. Carmen got to ride along in a little carrier attached to Mommy's bike. It was a gorgeous day!

This is a river down the street from the cabin we stayed at in Wawona which is right outside of Yosemite Valley. Carmen loved it!

Carmen got to sit in a backpack for our first hike of the week. She actually enjoyed it but Daddy's back did not.

Carmen loved being on vacation and started talking quite a bit during the entire week. We've seen her vocabulary blossom and she is speaking in more sentences and phrases.

Happy Birthday Sheri! We hope you enjoyed the ice-cream cake as much as Carmen did.

Carmen's eyes light up when she sees cake! She had been indifferent towards food all night until the cake was brought out. :)

Carmen got a new booster seat to sit in and she feels like such a big girl sitting in it. There's a big frog on it and she kept saying, "Ribbit, Ribbit" when sitting in it.

Carmen loved hunting for eggs! She ran all around the backyard shouting, "More," every time she saw an egg.

Grandma and Grandpa bought Carmen an Easter basket. She went right for the play dough! She proceeded to take the play dough out of it's case and tried to take a big bite out of it. We all screamed and stopped her. It was too funny.

Here, we are all singing, "If you're happy and you know it, shout Hooray!" Carmen loves this song and immediately began dancing.

A Day at the Beach

We went to Bolsa Chica beach where it took us 40 minutes to find parking. The first thing that Carmen noticed once we parked, was the balloons on a sign. She went crazy looking at them and trying to say, "Balloons!"

This is the first time Carmen has come into contact with the ocean. She loves baths and pools so we had a feeling that the ocean would be amazingly fun for her. Here, she is staring at the waves trying to figure out what this "ocean" thing is all about.

After taking a minute to think about it, Carmen decided that she wanted to run and jump into the ocean. Mommy is trying to keep her safe, as Carmen is quite the fearless baby.

The waves soon came and splashed Carmen and she loved it! She giggled with delight!

After playing in the ocean, we thought we'd all wind down and build a sand castle. Actually, we mostly just spent time filling the pail up with sand, dumping it out, and the re-filling it. Carmen loved playing with the sand and by the end of the day, we were all covered in it.

Carmen's new favorite pastime is to collect the shiny rocks from her grandma's garden and put them in her little red bucket. Once she collects them, she dumps them out, and then collects them once more. She can spend hours entertained with rocks. It's hilarious. Oh, she also enjoys banging the rocks together, as depicted in the pictures.

It's a little hard to see her little gold studs, but a week ago Carmen got her ears pierced and she looks so adorable with her earrings.

Carmen has a rocking chair that she likes to rock in. If she's not in the chair, then she puts her toys in it and rocks them. She can be found rocking her plastic blocks and toy purse too.

We can't believe that Carmen is already a whole year old! She is getting more and more fun as time passes and she seems to be learning so much.

Our good friend/neighbor, Nan, came over to join the birthday celebration.

Since Carmen wouldn't leave her b-day hat on, Uncle Kevin thought he'd wear it.

This was after Carmen decided to put handfuls of frosting in her mouth. It took her a while to decide if she wanted to eat the cake but when she finally did, she went full force.

Grandma and Grandpa try to keep Carmen entertained each day when mommy and daddy are at work. They decided to put Carmen in an empty diaper box and push her all around the house. They even attached a string to the front for pulling her. They called it, "Vroom Vroom" and Carmen can't get enough of it. She rides with the biggest smile and even throws her arms in the air or claps. Sooo much fun!

Carmen was invited to her first birthday party! Her new friend, Emerson, recently turned one and celebrated with a story book costume party in the park. Carmen dressed up as Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz and carried a picture of Toto by her side. Carmen was very excited to go play with her friends at the party.

Carmen got to take a ride in the car. She smiled the entire time.

Later, Carmen and mommy swung the bat at the pinata eagerly awaiting the candy inside of it to come pouring out. :)

Carmen has recently mastered the art of rolling over. Every time she successfully does it, we all clap which makes her want to keep rolling over. Mommy, Auntie, and Grandma watched Carmen roll over for hours today :)

6 Months Old

Carmen is officially 6 months old and is growing so fast. She is sitting up by herself and she'll even pull herself up to her feet with your hands.

Yesterday, Auntie Kelly, Grandma Vonnie, and Mom and Dad took Carmen out to lunch to a popular restaurant in Arcadia, The Dumpling House. We had to wait 30 minutes to get a table and Carmen didn't fuss at all. They provided a high chair for her and once in it, Carmen was delighted to be eating with us. She watched all of us eat and tried to grab everything she could to put in her mouth :)

Sheri and hubby Carlos spent a long and exhausting day awaiting the arrival of their newest addition to the Bermejo Family. As dinner time approached, so did baby Carmen and she greeted Mom, Dad, Auntie Kelly and Grandma Vonnie with joyous cries. Carmen weighed 7 lbs 12 oz and had brown hair to match her eyes. She spent her first hour bonding with Mom and getting acquainted with her new system of feeding. We all breathed a sigh of relief to know that she had made it to us healthy and ready to begin her new life.
